  1. I wass a student at Detroit’s Sacred Heart Seminary in 1967 when the statue on the orner of West Chicago Blvd. and Linwood was painted…on the Sunday afternoon of the 1967 Insurrection. That fall, some vandals came at night and threw buckets of white paint over the carefully-painted black hands feet and face of Jesus. Our Rector, Msgr. Francis Canfield, went out the following day, with the student heads of the house council, and carefully repainted the face, hands and feet black: “It’s what I feel we want to share with our neighbors,” he said. It has been repainted several times since, to maintain the tradition. I am proud of it!
