Observation: One thing that has really surprised me from the Detroit public artists as a whole – not a lot of inappropriate material. Sure there are swear words sprayed on walls and probably some of that doesn’t go over well with parents of young kids in The D, but in all my miles I have seen very few private part paintings or racist language, so much so that when I do see it, it really pops out to me. Not sure where they group consciousness comes from…but I like it and appreciate it.
Distance: 33.91 miles
D-Fact: At the opening of the Detroit Zoo in 1928, the mayor at the time, John C. Nagel, tried to shake hands with an escaped polar bear.
