Observation: I have had numerous people ask me over the months, “do you get lonely riding?”, and really the answer is no, but on days like today I can get a little bored. Riding in bad neighborhood, your senses are on higher alert. Riding in areas with a lot of art, you are stopping all the time to take pics. Riding in places with abandoned structures, your rides are extended, but they are broken up with periods of exploring. But rides like today where the neighborhood is fairly safe and just more “normal”, I do get a little weary and want to call it quits early. It’s also when I realize I’m an explorer way more than I am a rider, because if every day was like this, there is no way I would be doing this project.

D-Fact: Detroit was founded in 1701 by a French trader, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, who built a fort on the river and named it Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit in honor of his patron (the French word détroit meaning “strait”).
