If it’s not okay, it’s not the end

Observation:  When I started this project, I had no idea how long it would take or how far I would have to ride.  Now that has changed, and I can start to estimate when I will wrap up and can ballpark much better how many miles I still have left.  While some might like the idea of that closure in front of them, I find myself saddened by the premise, and now am consciously and subconsciously trying to slow it down.  I noticed my MPH are starting to drop after climbing steadily for 1.5 years.  I find myself getting off my bike to explore more buildings and homes than usual.  And finally, I find myself more often giving myself permission to “skip this morning” when at one time you would have had to fight me to get me to skip.  I have ideas for ELM 2.0, but many of them are more complex and depend on more people wanting to be a part of that experience.  There is excitement in that, but lots more room for potential failure as well.  This has been my first real passion project, and perhaps it’s just sad to see it took me later in life to start one, and even sadder to see it come to an end.

Distance:  19.28 miles

D-Fact:  Over 100 years ago, Detroit Electric automobiles were reliably getting 80 miles between recharging, and one test saw 211.3 miles on a single charge.

  1. Dear Tom, I think I can relate a bit to the sadness as I’m finally writing a book – something I’ve wanted to do my entire life. I’ve been writing it for about 5 years, and I think I’m coming to the end, although with agents/editors, it may be another 3-5 years before you’ll find it in a bookstore.

Maybe this passion project came to you at exactly the right time when you were really ready to experience it and take it all in? So much more is ahead of you, I really believe that’s true. I’m looking forward to hearing about ELM 2.0

And, I didn’t read the book in the email that I sent to you, but I’ve been following the author for a bit. I’m glad you reached out to her, it seems like it would be a good connection.

    xo, Julie
